2017 CfC Award_Tasheena ButlerThe 2016 CK Catalyst for Change Award

CK is excited to announce that the second recipient of the Catalyst for Change Award is Chef Tasheena Butler, Culinary Training Coordinator at Liberty's Kitchen in New Orleans.

This award recognizes an individual from the CK network whose outstanding service and dedication to empowering lives through job training has made significant impact on individuals, their community, and the field of food service social enterprise.

The award presentation took Tasheena completely by surprise, but that didn't prevent her from delivering an inspiring message to the staff and students gathered for lunch.
 

Tasheena Butler directs all culinary training activities for Liberty’s Kitchen’s Youth Development Program, providing disconnected youth with workforce and life skills training to become employed and self-sufficient. She is described by her colleagues as "the lynchpin of Liberty's Kitchen," a "charismatic leader" who is an innovative and skilled teacher.

Under Chef Tasheena's leadership the Youth Development Program has

  • Increased youth applications by 14%
  • Increased program graduation rate by 14%
  • Increased youth placed in jobs by 33%
  • Decreased youth leaving program by 43%
