Organization: Sanctuary Kitchen by CitySeed
Title: Director of Culinary Education
Nominated by: Naseema Gilson

Carol joined CitySeed as the Culinary Coordinator for Sanctuary Kitchen in 2018 to aid in the development of professional guidelines for our chefs, assist in building strong culinary programs, and grow Sanctuary Kitchen Catering into a flourishing business. She then moved into the Culinary Director role and is now Director of Culinary Education. Carol is, above all, an exemplary mentor. She works one-on-one with everyone at Sanctuary Kitchen to ensure they understand everything discussed and learned. She is a sponge of learning and stays educated on all things culinary and ESE-related to ensure she’s leading the organization correctly. She is warm and supportive, making everyone around her feel comfortable.

Carol works tirelessly to keep culinary operations moving seamlessly every day. From liaising with customers and partners, to scheduling chefs, and teaching our trainees, Carol has a hand in it. She lifts the chefs in our kitchen up, and helps them achieve their true potential. She leads by example, always willing to jump on the line when the chefs need additional support, and then move right to a meeting with the rest of the CitySeed team. She is often the last one to leave the kitchen each day, making sure that everything for the day has been completed and the kitchen is ready for the next day.

Carol has guided four chefs who participated in the SK Training Program to leadership roles within the organization. She has been instrumental in creating new revenue streams and ways to expand what we do.

Carol came away from the NE Summit re-energized about all Sanctuary Kitchen can do. The network of folks in Catalyst Kitchens have been such great peer mentors, and Carol connected with them in meaningful ways and has been able to gain valuable insight from them.
