Carey Snow, our culinary dynamo at the Chester County Food Bank, has been a vital force in culinary operations for the past three years. Affectionately known as the “energizer bunny,” Carey is the linchpin of our daily operations. Beginning her day at 7:00 a.m., she orchestrates the preparation and plating of 1000 individual meals with volunteers, contributing to the distribution of 4000-6000 meals monthly to the community. Her role extends beyond the kitchen as she spearheads the FRESHstart kitchen culinary training program, guiding individuals facing barriers to employment through a comprehensive 10-week program.
As the creator of menus, coordinator of volunteers, and manager of workflow, Carey’s meticulous approach ensures the success of each culinary endeavor. She goes above and beyond, demonstrating a commitment to each person’s individual journey and welfare. Carey’s training program includes knife skills, plated dish preparation, ServSafe certifications, and Restaurant Ready courses, fostering soft skills and relational abilities vital for success in the workforce. She extends her support beyond graduation, ensuring the graduates receive assistance for two years post-program completion.

What sets Carey apart is her exceptional dedication and leadership. Her infectious energy, unwavering commitment, and ability to lead by example make her a remarkable team player and role model. Carey is a true ambassador for our organization, embodying the values and mission of the Food Bank. She has worked diligently with over 100 volunteers and 30 staff, managing a kitchen responsible for preparing over 130,000 meals annually.
In 2023, Carey’s impact has been transformative. Not only has she increased sales of pre-made meals 11% with a revenue increase of $13,000, but she has also led the expansion of the program to include summer meals for kids, contributing an additional 30,000 meals for distribution. Carey has also played a pivotal role in launching a partnership with a local organization supporting individuals with special needs in a workforce development program.
